UNTITLED

CAMERON MOBERG

Market Street Arts presents Untitled by Cameron Moberg.

โ€œI leaned heavy in to butterfly abstractions after an incident near my old home on 6th St. I was painting a butterfly. It was a bit of a somber morning. On the way to go paint I walked through a gauntlet of people struggling. Near where I was painting, a person lie passed out and another dealing with mental health. As I painted, someone walked by and said โ€˜did you know butterflies experience pain in the cocoon before they become a butterfly?โ€™.

Now I donโ€™t know if thatโ€™s true or not, but as I continued to paint, I reflected on all the hurt I had walked by that morning and their journeys. I reflected on the people I knew in my neighborhood that used to be in similar situations but were now doing better. This was the day I decided I would paint more butterflies. I wanted to visually tell the story of the choice to use oneโ€™s pain to bring about beauty. I focus on the wings as a sense of leaving the old self behind.โ€
